Physiology, Focus and Language

I just attended Tony Robbins’ Unleashing the Power Within Seminar and it was an insightful, informative and transformative experience. Tony’s energy, excitement and Essence are the perfect model of what’s required for leadership. Because he’s mentally in shape and physically in shape he is a “YES” to life and leadership at extraordinary levels. Add his excitement about doing what he loves to that and then put him in his Essence (living spiritually, authentically and congruently with whom he is and what he wants to create in the world) and he is unstoppable, inspiring and compelling.
A core tenet of Tony Robbins’ teaching is that our physiology, focus and language (word construct) is creating our reality all the time and the best way to shift ourselves out patterns of self-sabotage is to physically take on a new construct in our bodies (stand, move, and shape yourself in a new way), then identify a focus that supports what we want and create that powerfully with new imagery, then use new language to create that.
An easy way to do this is to first find out what your old construct was and embellish that. For instance, I sometimes look at my day, feel overwhelmed and then confuse myself about what I should do next (which creates even more confusion). When this happens, I stop to look at my physiology and notice that my breathing pattern is shallow; I feel a hollowness in my chest and my shoulders droop. It also feels like my feet are stuck in mud and won’t move. I have no image of a future possibility. My focus at the time is on “not knowing what to do next” and my language internally or externally often reflects the belief. It’s a very disempowering feeling.
Now, to shift out of that I would catch myself doing it, slow it down and embellish it so I can really familiarize myself with the pattern. Once I clearly see the physical pattern I shake that out of my body; then I think of a time when I knew exactly what to do. Once I’ve found that time and memory I take on a new physiology that represents that experience. Very quickly my shoulders go back and down, my head goes to an erect position and my chest is now projected forward and my sternum is pointing up to the sky. My breathing deepens and once again I am at home with myself and confident about moving forward. My mind now speaks a language different from the first scenario that now says, “I do know what to do! What are the five most important things I need to handle?” I easily move to prioritizing the list and I start with the most important item first. I am now in action.
Without even thinking about it, I’m now excited and moving forward with ease and wisdom. It’s a great day. I rock!

Thank you for this wonderful reminder about how our bodies are constantly speaking to us and about us, and how tuning in and shaking it up can create powerful shifts. And, for the reminder that words are very powerful things, not just when I speak them to others, but especially when I speak them to myself–and, I shape my reality in a powerful direction when I consciously choose what I say. I’m also reminded of something Therese so frequently told me…what has my attention is my intention…ah, being focused, that really resonates for me.
